Child Care Services Hosts Directors' Symposium

Austin, TX – Workforce Solutions Child Care Services and TMC (Teaching and Mentoring Communities), formerly the Texas Migrant Council, in partnership with Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, hosted a Child Care Director’s Symposium on March 6 and March 7.

“This symposium was held to promote the best training methods for child care center operators, directors and staff, and the growing needs of child care, stated Cynthia Gamez, Child Care Services Assistant Director.

The symposium covered topics such as early childhood development research findings, promoting quality enhancements for children, maximizing the health safety and well being and developmental potential of all children, recognizing abuse and neglect, and recruiting selecting and orienting staff.

Training sessions included: providing a healthy and safe environment, preparing for licensure, staff accountability, motivating adults, avoiding disease outbreaks, time and fiscal management, early literacy, and communication between parents and staff.

The yearly Symposium began in 2001 by Workforce Solutions with grant assistance from the Texas Workforce Commission to provide training; increase the effectiveness of existing child care providers and support entrepreneurial efforts for new business development in child care.

IThe closing speaker for the Symposium was Holly Elissa Bruno who spoke to the attendees on the challenges early childhood providers face today and how to overcome these challenges.  Ms. Bruno is an author, teacher and keynote speaker in early childhood education leadership.
