TMC Dedicates Building to former Chairman of the Board
Crystal City, TX – TMC dedicated its Crystal City Migrant Seasonal Head Start Center today to Mr. Jesse Gamez. Mr. Gamez was a founding board member of TMC, Teaching & Mentoring Communities, formerly known as Texas Migrant Council, Inc.
In 1971, Jesse Gamez was asked to incorporate TMC. He prepared the incorporation papers that helped TMC to officially do business in Texas. After the Board of Directors was formed, Jesse Gamez became Chairman of the Board and was the longest serving Chairman of the Board serving for 25 years. He served on the TMC Board of Directors for 27 years.
Mr. Jesse Gamez was a Migrant farm worker as a young adult and picked vegetables and fruits in both California and Wisconsin. Jesse Gamez believed in opportunity, in particular, opportunity through education. Through TMC, Jesse Gamez worked to level the playing field for children of migrant farm workers by providing them access to an early education that would grant them the opportunity to enter school ready to learn and to succeed.
He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association, the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, and was a member of the Raza Unida Party.
He was born in Crystal City, Texas on August 2, 1942 to Jesus and Esther Gamez and is the father of three children: Esther Jean Gamez, Jesus Mario Gamez, and Selina Gamez Maloney.
