TMC Hosts School Readiness Summit
San Antonio, TX – TMC, one of the top ten Super Grantee Head Starts in the country, hosted a School Readiness Summit entitled “Racing to School Readiness!”. The Summit was held at PBS KLRN Station in San Antonio, TX and was televised via U-Stream to seven sites throughout TMC’s service areas. This Summit highlighted TMC’s strategy toward achieving a school ready environment, for every child in its Head Start programs, as they prepare for the first grade.
“For 40 years, TMC has been providing early learning opportunities to children throughout the United States; preparing children to become lifelong learners by creating opportunities for advancement through education, training and other resources in collaboration with public and private partners”, stated Mary Capello – TMC President/CEO.
The information at this Summit aligned perfectly with the Office of Head Start’s message of improving the quality of early childhood education by ensuring that all young children are ready to enter kindergarten and reflect Head Starts commitment to provide the support that our youngest children need to achieve academic success.
Speakers included Dr. Angela Valenzuela, UT Austin; Dr. Sylvia Sanchez, George Mason University; Dr. Mary White, Children’s Learning Institute; Brandi Black Thacker, National Center on Parent, Family and Community Engagement; Alan Miller, Workforce Solutions Capitol Area; Dr. Susan Landry, Children’s Learning Institute; Dr. Hilda Medrano, UT Pan American; LaShonda Brown, Texas Head Start Collaboration Office; Cleo Rodriguez, National Migrant And Seasonal Head Start Association; Jeff Capizzano, Policy Equity Group; Susan Johnston, Johnston & Bitner Consulting; and Dr. John Gazko, TMC Director of Children & Families who introduced the Implementation of the TMC Roadmap to Results.
