TMC Participates in National Conference
Washington DC – The Office of Head Start welcomed attendees to the 38th Annual Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Conference: “Migrant and Seasonal Head Start: Embracing Changes and Cultivating Quality”, held February 3 - 6, 2009; Board Members, Regional Staff, Center Staff and Parent Policy Council members represented TMC at this years Conference in Washington, D.C. Attendees participated in workshops dealing with children’s health, literacy challenges, community assessments, technology and head start, healthy marriages development, program self assessment, family relationships and parent involvement.
During their visit to Washington, board members had the opportunity to visit with representatives from the Office of Head Start, the Department of Education, NMSHSA, Vice-President Joe Biden's office, the office of Majority Leader Harry Reid -NV, Congressman Henry Cuellar - TX, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa -TX and other congressional leaders.
TMC Board Member Grace Camargo from Weslaco, TX, Craig Taskey - TMC Regional Administrator/Indiana Region and Karla Valdez representing TMC's Policy Council were elected to the National Migrant Seasonal Head Start Association Board of Directors.
"This visit to Washington was a great success; we had the occasion to discuss the success of our program, discuss how the stimulus bill affects the communities we serve and the opportunities/challenges that allow us to provide better services to the families served by TMC", stated Dan Liskai-Board President.
